Dr. Butler’s engaging memoir of a Black man in this nation transcends timeliness. His words echo the haunts of a country plagued by racism since its conception.

In “Deemed Unworthy” Robert sensitively addresses the irrational racial fear and hate that continues today in our society and its esteemed institutions. His admirable confidence that conversation and creative commonalities reduce racism reflects a patience observed in Black Americans throughout our nation’s history. It is a praiseworthy philosophical choice prominent in Black American leaders today.

Dr. Butler’s life is a story of success despite extreme social adversity, but he does not ignore the rarity of his success and happiness. Instead, he uses his personal life to highlight the unfair hurdles that discrimination wrongly imposes. His perseverance is representative of the best of Black history in this nation.

“Deemed Unworthy” – like Robert’s life – is a beautiful tribute to his exceptional family.

“Deemed Unworthy” is a testimony of strength that every American - particularly white American - needs to read.
